Finding a community of women who share your interests and hobbies can seem pretty difficult. However, thanks to social media and word of mouth, its possibilities are endless. This blog is going in a different direction. We’re going to show you a few ways you, a mother, can grow your network and find more mothers within your area.

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

First up is the obvious point, social media. What’s crazy about this one is just how useful it can be. While it’s super easy to get lost in Facebook Marketplace and cute viral videos, it’s beneficial to utilize social media for what it’s best known for: networking. Search keywords such as “Mothers” and “Phoenix” to find some groups in your community. After looking for a group that best represents you, reach out and initiate some striking conversation. Let us know what happens.

Word of Mouth

The best advice yet: people know people. Word of mouth is a dated but useful way to spread some news. Moms can be some of the world’s most talented talkers. With that being said, let’s take advantage of that and make use of some of the opportunities we hear on the street. New events mean new people, and that’s a free ticket to knowing even more people.

Taking care of yourself during pregnancy is the best way a woman can start her journey through motherhood. Self-care during maternity increases the chance of a healthy baby, a healthy home, and even a healthy relationship with your significant other. This can be done through daily check-ins or a set-in-stone routine. Nonetheless, maternity care is essential throughout the nine months of pregnancy.

When it comes to self-care, your partner or spouse has a huge role in a mother’s wellbeing. Keeping up with vitamins, meals, medications, exercise, cravings and much more may seem like a lot but with proper planning and organization, it will soon become second nature. Once you get used to the routines and the cravings, make sure you’re ready for any surprises. As we all know, pregnancy is the reasoning behind lots of unplanned late-night trips to the convenience store; a task that tends to fall on a very non-pregnant partner. But the trips are made anyways; why, because we care.

Rydel Lynch Has Some Advice For Mothers… And We’re Listening!

Singer and recently proclaimed mother, Rydel Lynch, has kept us all on the tip of our toes as she brought us along her journey through pregnancy. Finally, she’s shown us her adorable baby boy! Not only has motherhood been a new concept for the star but she’s managed to learn a thing or two that could definitely help other new moms – and soon-to-be mom’s as well! Word on the street is that if you give your newborn a breastfeeding schedule from the get-go, there will be much less mid-day snacking from the baby as well as a decent decrease in sleepless nights. This immediate schedule teaches the baby’s body when to be hungry rather than feeding on breast milk whenever they want to. This concept seems revolutionary, other moms should test this out and tell us what response they get! Better yet, if you’ve used this tactic on your child when they were young, let us know so we can get another word for it. Implementing this at such a young age seems genius and well-thought-out. This encourages structure at such a young and impressionable age, and that’s what matters most. Let’s Talk Gender Reveals

Gender Reveals:
Are You a Minimalist or an Extremist?

Working with aspiring parents, we admire the opportunity to watch a family grow right before our eyes. Between Luela Kaba’s family, motherhood, and maternity photoshoots, it’s bittersweet to watch a client go on to live a beautiful life with their new family! However, Luela Kaba and her creative team are one big family; and our clients are our extended family. With that being said, revealing the gender of a bun in the oven is one of the biggest moments of soon-to-be parents! So here are some ideas as far as how creative you can get.

When it comes to gender reveals, it can go two ways, (1) a minimal gathering with close family or (2) a grand kickoff with the whole crew! But in this case, let’s start with the first.

Minimal, Small, Meaningful:

For a small gathering with family only 10 people are really necessary. This makes room for easy flowing conversation, lots of photo opportunities, and isn’t too difficult to cater to. You could reveal the gender by doing any of the following:

Cut a cake! The filling of the center would be the color designated to each gender.
Pop a balloon! There could be confetti with the designated color within it.
Set a smoke bomb! Have a friend who has previous knowledge of the gender decorate the smoke bomb so that there are no spoilers.

Grand, Plentiful, Dramatic:

Having a huge party for this kind of announcement seems like loads of fun! So many loved ones would be there to celebrate, mingle, and welcome your parenthood with open arms. Lots of candids would be taken and that would be the perfect opportunity to tell your little one “That’s your third cousin! That’s your fifth auntie!” and so so so much more. The atmosphere would be through the roof and as parents-to-be, you would be surrounded by endless support and love. You could reveal the gender by doing any of the following:

Fireworks! As the sun goes down, this would be a perfect opportunity to see some beautiful visuals while finding out the gender of your baby.
Team games! Have the guests split up into teams and engage in an activity that would reveal the gender of the baby.
Pinata! Use a huge pinata and have that release party confetti in the color designated to each color.

Analyzing Our Favorite Shoots II

Our Fav Shoots and How We Do Them: Part Two

If there’s anything we’ve learned from our past shoots, there are lots to cover with each client. Even more so since there’s no chance of getting the same personality twice! (A quality we admire, might I add.) Let’s look at our next shoot and analyze the ins and outs of our beautiful mother and her stylistic wants & needs. As usual, we will be looking at fabrics, tones, and our model. Let’s dive in.

Fabrics. Fabrics, whether noticeable or not, is the first thing a viewer notices when looking at model photography. With this particular client, it’s clear that they were leaning especially towards a sheer and sexy look. To do this, we wanted to implement a see-through fabric with beautiful rhinestones. This matched the rest of the photo beautifully, keeping up with the connection with the backdrop and the mother’s makeup.
Tone. Notice the color palette of the backdrop and how it compliments the fabrics used in this shoot. This enhances the communication between the various elements of this maternity photo shoot. Everything seems to keep a nice monotone aesthetic. Making for a glamorous but clean look.
Our beautiful mother. As mentioned before, there is an evident flow between all 3 elements, and fulfilling this flow, is our model. As you can see her beauty make-up matches the nude and shimmery feel. This completes the connection thus creating a stunning photoshoot.

Why does it Matter?

When it comes to photography, Luela Kaba keeps a keen eye on what a perfect portrait must look like. Finding and keeping harmony between fabrics, backgrounds, and tones is the secret to pleasing the viewer. Keeping a clear, flowing connection throughout the photo makes for a complete and satisfying photo, leaving the photographer, the model, and anyone who sees it on a very happy note. Throughout a maternity photoshoot, it’s important to establish a continuous aesthetic throughout the session. This is when we acknowledge and implement the preferred style of the model, or in most cases, the mother. While encompassing effortless beauty, maternity photographer Luela Kaba praises the method of communication. We choose our models’ fabrics, backgrounds, and tones based on what they’ve expressed to us and what vibe we pick up.

Based on our analysis and rundown with our model, we then come to a conclusion about which types of fabrics we will use, what colors they will be. All of this and more begs us to ask the question “What do we want the audience to feel?”. Depending on the answer, we pick between flowy fabrics or still fabrics and covering fabrics or revealing fabrics. Once we’ve gotten there, next up is the color. What tone do we want to set. Are we looking for a dark and mysterious tone? Let’s put our model in dark eyeshadow, dark lipstick, and maroon flowy fabrics. Looking for a light and airy tone? Let’s put our model in a natural look, paired with nude lipstick and white minimal fabrics.
