Taylor’s Birthday Boudoir Shoot

It’s been proven that the color red is the most attractive color to men and women alike. That fact most definitely holds true in our most recent boudoir shoot with the beautiful Taylor. As a returning customer, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Taylor for quite a few photoshoots. When she reached out to me in pursuit of this glam boudoir session, it was clear we were going in a new direction for boudoir. I’d call this a “sexy session”. We did, however, want to make sure this shoot was extra special, seeing as she was celebrating her 30th birthday.

With that in mind, there was no doubt that we had to emulate the classiness and sexiness that comes with a woman on her glow day. Taylor and I then worked together to plan the best outfits, poses, and aesthetics to ensure that we would showcase the very best version of herself. It was important to celebrate the hours of hard work Taylor had put into herself and we wanted to truly show that in this take of a boudoir photoshoot. Let’s Talk Gender Reveals

Gender Reveals:
Are You a Minimalist or an Extremist?

Working with aspiring parents, we admire the opportunity to watch a family grow right before our eyes. Between Luela Kaba’s family, motherhood, and maternity photoshoots, it’s bittersweet to watch a client go on to live a beautiful life with their new family! However, Luela Kaba and her creative team are one big family; and our clients are our extended family. With that being said, revealing the gender of a bun in the oven is one of the biggest moments of soon-to-be parents! So here are some ideas as far as how creative you can get.

When it comes to gender reveals, it can go two ways, (1) a minimal gathering with close family or (2) a grand kickoff with the whole crew! But in this case, let’s start with the first.

Minimal, Small, Meaningful:

For a small gathering with family only 10 people are really necessary. This makes room for easy flowing conversation, lots of photo opportunities, and isn’t too difficult to cater to. You could reveal the gender by doing any of the following:

Cut a cake! The filling of the center would be the color designated to each gender.
Pop a balloon! There could be confetti with the designated color within it.
Set a smoke bomb! Have a friend who has previous knowledge of the gender decorate the smoke bomb so that there are no spoilers.

Grand, Plentiful, Dramatic:

Having a huge party for this kind of announcement seems like loads of fun! So many loved ones would be there to celebrate, mingle, and welcome your parenthood with open arms. Lots of candids would be taken and that would be the perfect opportunity to tell your little one “That’s your third cousin! That’s your fifth auntie!” and so so so much more. The atmosphere would be through the roof and as parents-to-be, you would be surrounded by endless support and love. You could reveal the gender by doing any of the following:

Fireworks! As the sun goes down, this would be a perfect opportunity to see some beautiful visuals while finding out the gender of your baby.
Team games! Have the guests split up into teams and engage in an activity that would reveal the gender of the baby.
Pinata! Use a huge pinata and have that release party confetti in the color designated to each color.

Finding and keeping harmony between fabrics, backgrounds, and tones is the secret to pleasing the viewer. Keeping a clear, flowing connection throughout the photo makes for a complete and satisfying photo, leaving the photographer, the model, and anyone who sees it on a very happy note. Throughout a maternity photoshoot, it’s important to establish a continuous aesthetic throughout the session. This is when we acknowledge and implement the preferred style of the model, or in most cases, the mother. We choose our models’ fabrics, backgrounds, and tones based on what they’ve expressed to us and what vibe we pick up.

Dance & Photography

Dance, the way to my soul. It started when I was 5. I fell in love it from the very beginning. Every beat just made me move. I continued dancing all the way through college. I loved every minute if it I just wish I would have gone further, but that takes me here to this blog. Today here at Luela Kaba Photography I got to work with a young dancer here in Phoenix. Her grandmother reached out and wanted to gift her some photos as a Valentine’s gift. I was so excited to work on this project. I started dreaming from the very moment she reached out. What poses, what outfits and lighting. I knew I wanted something delicate and beautiful. Found the most beautiful pieces for her. We worked together in the studio to achieve all the different looks and we couldn’t be happier with the results. The fabrics and lighting was everything I had imagined in my mind. Put dance and photography all in one and we are in for a long session of art making. It doesn’t get any better.
